What I’ve Learned After Wasting $3,459.13 Building My SaaS

3 min readJan 20, 2025

I’ve been infatuating on the idea of building a SaaS product that will one day be an industry leader making me $1m a month.

“Find a problem, build a simple MVP and your bank account will explode in new recurring deposits.”

This is a big fat lie. Maybe a white-ish lie. I have contributed to projects that are on the market now that generates these numbers, but my biggest mistake was not respecting or taking into considering of the “things before the code”. You’d think someone with my experience would understand that by now but at the end of the day, we are all human. We tend to fall in love with engineering process rather than the desired result our users expect from the product.

What many on YouTube won’t tell you is that, a SaaS, is NOT a product, it’s a business. A business that requires strategy or else sh-t will all fail you you’ll end up looking silly like me.

This is not the first time I’ve wasted money building a SaaS business. I’ve failed a lot in the past too. By the way, the $3,459 is what I wasted building THIS SaaS. I’m too embarrassed to tell you the total figure through out my career, and I don’t want to know that answer either because I’ll start getting mad at myself again.
